La Boca is one of the oldest districts of the city of Buenos Aires. It is located on the border of the Riachuelo that is considered to be a natural port. With its form like a mouth it gave name to its district (boca means mouth), and began to be populated in the middle of the XIX century when Italian, Spanish and other immigrants disembarked in the country. The tenacity of these men, the vigor and the wish to go for a new future formed a hearth of races that today is reflected in everything which makes the essence of the place.

The metal plates and pieces of wood were installed on breakax-wood piles giving origin to the first constructions, the “conventillo”. The appearance, soon after of houses constructed with material, with its Italian Renaissance architecture, drew a new and picturesque scenery.

Toward 1902, in the “Vuelta de Rocha” one of the first houses built with material was constructed, being a typical construction of the beginning of the century that shows characteristics of the Italian Renaissance style, by the architect J. B. Rocca.

That large house that among other uses, has been a home, took into its foundations a trace of memory. . . There, in 1904 the Socialist Committee integrated by Dr. Alfredo Palacios took place. Located in a place where the picturesque scenery and history mingle and which cannot be separated, the large house keeps the only existent Historical Wax Museum in our country. In the museum the essence of the district is shown overwhelmingly, with the existence of wax figures that evoke the remarkable history of the South of Buenos Aires, from its origin until today.    

Inaugurated on June 11, 1980 by Professor Domingo I. Tellechea, a great expert in wax modeling, taxidermist and art restorer. The Museum was started up with the purpose to create a cultural space in our country joining art and history.

It offers a unique possibility to live unforgettable moments by walking among the most important people of our history. Wax has turned out to be the material with the greatest artistic resources to elaborate the human figure, becoming the only ideal material, since it has color, form and translucency, allowing to liken skin colors in a nearly perfect way.
